"Lore Olympus," a webcomic sensation released by Webtoon, the American unit of Naver Webtoon, has taken another win ― this time, with the Mike Wieringo Comic Book Industry Award, more popularly known as the Ringo Award.
Top honors of the fifth annual prizes, established in honor of cartoonist Mike Wieringo, were announced at the Baltimore Comic-Con, Saturday (local time). "Lore Olympus" was named the winner in the Best Webcomic category.
With the announcement, the hit webtoon, created by New Zealand-based artist Rachel Smythe, has scored the triple crown this year ― along with the Will Eisner Comic Industry Award in July and the Harvey Award early this month.
The fantasy romance series, which puts a contemporary twist on the tales of Greek mythology, mainly zeroes in on Hades, the ancient god of the dead, and his love interest, Persephone, the goddess of spring who later becomes the queen of the underworld.
Since its debut in March 2018, the digital comic has become a global phenomenon, garnering over 1.2 billion views. It ranked first on The New York Times' best seller list last December as a graphic novel.
