Fantasy action flick “Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman” swept the local box office during the Chuseok holiday weekend, surpassing one million ticket sales Sunday.
The film, which opened at the top of the box office, Sept. 27, has been soaring for five consecutive days since its release, garnering a total of 1.17 million ticket sales worth 11.35 billion won ($8.37 million).
Based on the popular webcomic "Possessed," the comedy action film revolves around fraudulent exorcist Dr. Cheon (Gang), who makes a living off performing pseudo-exorcisms.
One day, when he takes a new client, Yoo-kyung (Esom), he faces a real case of demonic possession and unlocks his latent power to save Yoo-kyung’s possessed sister from a powerful evil spirit, Beom Cheon (Huh Joon-ho).
Two other domestic films, "Road to Boston" and "Cobweb", released on the same day altogether, fell short of the competition only collecting about 571,000 and 225,000 in ticket sales, respectively, since opening.
