The approval came a year after SsangYong's creditors put the troubled carmaker on the block. The acquisition price is about 950 billion won ($732 million), including funds for the company's stable operation. SsangY...

Legislative dictatorship
The main opposition Democratic Party of Korea (DPK) is taking flak for seeking to convene an extra National Assembly session to elect its new speaker unilaterally. The DPK is poised to open the session in July unless there is progress in negotiations with the ruling People Power Party (PPP) to end the current impasse.

Hasty police reform
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety is drawing a strong backlash from police officers over its push for police reform aimed at taking direct control of the law enforcement agency. Diplomatic test for Yoon

Lack of coordination
President Yoon Suk-yeol cannot avoid criticism for causing controversy over his government's decision-making process on the flexible application of the 52-hour workweek system. Controversy erupted last Friday, one day after Labor Minister Lee Jeong-sik announced a policy direction to make the rigid workweek more flexible as part of labor reforms.

Worrying national debt
One of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's key economic policies is bold tax cuts. For starters, it plans to slash the top corporate tax rate by 3 percent, lower the property holding tax for owners of only one home to the 2020 level and reduce the stock transaction tax by 0.03 percent.
